Episode 3
Samuel moved to his side of the bed and sat down. His left brow was raised so he was still expecting an answer.
Blessing sighed exasperatedly. "Oh, honey" she said "it's not so bad an idea na?"
"Yeah, but we've talked about this. It's obvious God doesn't want that for us."
"How do you know that?" Blessing retorted. "I'm fed up of all this silence from God!" She threw the covers over her legs and went to sit on the chair.
Samuel silently asked God for wisdom to speak reassuringly to her. A part of him wanted to get upset that she was bringing this topic up again but the other part of him wanted to encourage her. She couldn't give up now.
"The JJJ promise. Have you ever bothered to ask God to expantiate on it? Or you just wrote it down believing it will happen when it's time?"
Blessing rolled her eyes at him. "Of course I wrote it down believing it would happen when it was due. God has perfect timing, remember?"
Samuel nodded calmly. Blessing was edgy this night. He needed to tread carefully.
"He does. But you've got to pray your promise into reality. Faith without action is dead."
Blessing didn't reply. She just sat, numb to everything. All she wanted was to be happy and have her own baby in her hands. Was that too much to ask?
"But we've fasted and prayed over and over. We've done everything!"
"Then like Hannah, we keep pressing." Samuel affirmed. "Doubt and depression are like a clog in the wheel of our prayers."
Blessing sighed and got up. She swiped at her Bible and went downstairs.
Now in the living room, she collapsed on a chair and cried. "Oh God! I'm fed up of all these waiting and silence. If I stay one more minute without hearing from you when I wake up tomorrow, I'm going to run mad. I'm desperate. You know I've loved kids since I knew how to spell the word. And Samuel, will you keep him waiting forever too? The JJJ promise is before you now, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Hasten your word to perform it. Do what you have promised even now, Lord..."
As she prayed, she wasn't sure if it was her desperation that gave her strength or if God Himself was physically present in the room, by her side. Her eyes were closed and her focus was somewhere beyond this world.
Samuel came down an hour later. He found his wife sprawled on the floor. It was as if someone had poured water on her. Her tears mixed with sweat, she was soaked and her lips were moving and producing weird sounds.
He considered joining her, but was restrained. Maybe this was a path she had to tread alone.
Sun rays and the sound of birds chirping in the flowers outside woke Blessing up the next day. She sat up and blinked twice, trying to get herself. Then like waves, it came rushing back to her. It hit her! The JJJ promise! God had showed her His plan when she slept.
Joshua, Jeremiah, Jemimah.
She rose to her feet and almost stumbled on the glass table as she hurried to get her jotter where the JJJ promise was written. JJJ was code for Joshua, Jeremiah and Jemimah. She finally understood!
We're almost there guys, thanks for reading this farπ€✨.
