NIGERIA; A NEW HORIZON
Once upon a time, you would have thought she was a great nation,
She was pregnant with inexhaustible gems and resources, the envy of all other nations.
Her various cultures were the beautiful jewels that adorned her.
Her skin shone brightly and none could ignore the beauty and wealth she weilded as a weapon.
She had earned her place on the map and she was called the Giant of Africa.
The western countries saw it and they came scrambling for a piece of her.
They set their greedy fingers on her and deceived her with things she had never seen, but things that could never have been compared to what she carried.
One after the other, they came to reap where they had not sown.
They latched unto her like eels and milked her year after year, refusing to let her go until they had had their fill...
Until her children decided they had been cheated enough and fought for their mother's freedom.
Independence! Or was it?
She never recovered from that exploitative experience. Now her eyes were open. She was no longer ignorant and naive, but she also never came to a right mind, where she could stand on her own.
She was independent. Her children could enjoy her now. But through the years, the faint lines of slavery were still visible. She was still a puppet to her colonial masters.
Their wish was still her command.
But in the years to come, she would learn that she was still in bondage. And her children would do everything they could to free her from those chains.
Tlhey did. But before long, she saw the same evil that she had seen in her colonial masters in the eyes of some of her children.
Some couldn't care less if she was totally free or not. Some did not believe in her anymore. Some were not in support of her total freedom. They met secretly and planned how they would get a lion share of her wealth.
They sought wicked spiritual powers, they couped and plotted, deceiving the ignorant masses, lying that they had their best interest at heart when in reality, they played a dirty game called Politricks.
Then they began to milk her again. Ruler after ruler, from the smallest to the greatest, in the high and low places, they channeled her river of wealth and goodness to their personal activities and just like during her colonialism, the masses suffered.
This Giant of Africa, once beautiful and radiant became a shadow of her former self..
Her light was beginning to dim. And slowly, her own children were leading her to her grave.
But it was not over until it was all over. The poor and deceived, the fatherless and motherless, the widows and orphans began to cry out. Not to man, for their leaders had disappointed them one too many times. They cried out to God. The One who created their Mother.
For years and years, their cries filtered into the ears of the One who ruled above the nations. He could see the evil. He could see the violence. He could see the bloodshed. He could see the wickedness. Yet, He waited.
They cried out to him the more and the blood of the unjustly slain gave him no rest. Her masses were rendng heavens day and night with their prayers.
"Arise! Oh Lord" They shouted.
Woe to them that said there was no help for them.
For God arose in His own wisdom. He gave the order and sent deliverance for her. For she was pregnant with treasures that had never been seen.
A rumbling and a shaking, I saw a thick cloud cover her. Before the victory, there had to be war.
And God was coming for the people who had turned her to what she was today.
After the noise, there was silence.
The fog is clearing. The clouds are parting. Something emerges in the distance. What do you see?
I see a new Nigeria. She arises like a new born child. Her skin is once again succulent and her wealthy colors are coming back to her.
I see a land washed with the Blood of the Lamb. Peaceful, quiet, safe and habitable.
I see a bright sun rising upon her green horizon where poverty, hunger, unemployment and insecurity are six feet deep.
Nigeria will conceive and bring forth a son. He will be called righteousness and peace, abundance and wealth.
This is what I see.
What do you see? Let me know in the comments section ๐ค
