Margaret's best Christmas.

Margaret sat at the window sill as she watched Mike, her husband drive out of the garage downstairs. A tear dropped down her eye and she curled her lips to begin silent crying. Today was Christmas. It was supposed to be a day of happiness and laughter in gratitude to the birth of Jesus Christ. But Mike, who had suddenly become a jerk and a pain in the neck some weeks back was not making it possible for her to feel even the slightest spark of happiness or love.

"Jesus, some years ago, about this time, you came to die for me so that I can be free from sin and so I won't have to die and go to hell. I'm happy you did that, Lord, I'm really very grateful. But why am I not feeling happy today? Mike is such a jerk and it's hell to be around him. How can I be happy?"

She listened in the silence.

"Love."

Margaret thought she had not heard right.

"The only way to be happy is to love him."

She chuckled in spite of herself. "That's a pretty tall order, Lord."

But there was silence. The Holy Spirit was not going to argue or drag this matter with her. He had said and even though Margaret thought it was hard, she would obey and see what comes out of it.

She wiped her face and smiled to the mirror before locking her laptop in her study room. She went downstairs and began to do all the things she could remember Mike loved. She baked him a fruit cake and had a special dinner waiting for him. She went to the garage and restored all the things she had taken out of fear that he was spending more time with them than her. She put on the TV and flipped channels to his favourite sports channel. Then because he could be terribly romantic when he wanted, she brought down the big Christmas tree in the garage to the sitting room and wrapped beautiful lights around it. She had to admit she was having fun decorating the tree. And as she placed the big white star on the top of the tree, she smiled and said. "This one's for you, Lord. Thank you for everything." She switched off the normal lights and allowed the glow from the tree light up the house.

Then she wrapped him a present that only he could know and enjoy. The cherry on the cake was the soft music she allowed to waltz through the house. Did Mike deserve all these? Hell no! But if Jesus had left glory above and come to pay an ultimate sacrifice for her Redemption, showing His undying love for an undeserving person like her in the process, as a Christian it was only normal to reciprocate that love to everyone else. Including arrogant Mike.

Fast forward to five hours later, Mike had come home, seen everything and initially tried to make a mess of Margaret's show of love by throwing bher a biting remark about her weight, but through it all Margaret had smiled and led him to see everything she had done.

Sitting together in the sitting room moments later, admiring the tree and recollecting Jesus' birth, she saw him smile and look at her. The fact that her heart skipped a beat, surprised her. Then he said he was sorry for everything and asked if she would not mind him hugging her as his own 'pathetic' show of love for the night.

As they got locked in each other's arms, Margaret caught sight of the star on the tree. 'Thank you, Lord for everything and yes, I am happy."

It was the best Christmas ever.🎄🎀🎁🎄
