The JJJ promise.
Episode 1.

Mrs. Blessing Delosa stared apprehensively at the pregnancy test kit that she had in her hand. She tapped her right foot impatiently on the floor as she willed herself to see two red lines appear on the kit. Her chest was about to tear from so much suspense when the result appeared. It was just one line. Negative.
She curled her lips and closed her eyes to prevent tears from falling or from crying out loud, but the pain in her heart was beyond what she could express in tears.
She slid her back down the wall and dropped dejectedly to the bathroom floor. It had been six years. Six years since she got married to Samuel. Six years of torture from in-laws and neighbours. Six years of trying and trusting that one day she'll have good news. It had been six years of going to the pharmacy to buy pregnancy test kits hoping to see two red lines at the end of everything...

She heard the front door jam. Samuel must have left for work. Sometimes she pitied him more than she pitied herself. When they were courting, he used to joke about having five or six kids and she would joke about having them all at a go. Those were jokes, but she was not oblivious to the fact that her husband really loved kids. She saw it in his eyes when they visited couples with kids and during her very many trips to the hospital, when they met sick children. And she knew he deserved all the children in the world. He deserved little children running around in his study, tugging at his suit whenever he came from work and distracting him from overly organized thoughts when he was trying to balance an account or prepare a sermon. He was just being considerate, having never complained about the situation. He was always believing, always trusting, not letting go of the hope that she would get pregnant one day and give birth to his own children. Sometimes, he was what kept her going.

Him and the promise. During her youth service days, God had given her a promise she had written down in a book and in her heart. He had confirmed His promise through people, dreams and circumstances many times after that.
As she felt hot tears stain her cheeks, she stared at the white lights on the roof. "Where's your promise, Lord? You told me and I was sure. What's happening? I can't bear this anymore. Happiness is slipping away from this house and..."
She heard the door knob click and she hurried to clean her tears. Samuel stood in the doorway looking at her. She tried to form a fake smile on her face, but she knew it was a pathetic show at faking happiness.
Samuel walked up to her and lowered himself on the floor beside her. He drew her close to his side with his right hand and allowed her to rest on his chest. Then he retrieved a worn out book from his suit pocket. Blessing's eyes widened. That was the book she had used during service. The diary she wrote most of the promises God had given her.
Samuel smiled and opened to a page. 'The promise of JJJ' was written in bold letters and a lot of scriptures and notes were written under it. Behind that page, Blessing had written her thoughts and prayers on that promise. Seeing it, her chin quivered.

"And he staggered not at the promises of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God." Samuel whispered into her ears whilst patting her arm.

She sniffed and rubbed her eyes, as she came to realize that God was not done with her yet.

"Who knows, maybe we're the twenty-first century Abraham and Sarah," he joked, laughing at her.

She jabbed him in his ribs, playfully. "It's not me and you."

"Stay strong in faith, Blessing. God is able to perform what He promised. Even the JJJ promise."

Blessing nodded and smiled as she allowed God's peace to wash over her. "Even the JJJ promise."

"I've just never stopped wondering what the JJJ promise means." Samuel asked, turning to face her.

Blessing snickered. "You're the pastor, aren't you? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you."

The laughter that followed came from both of them and was rich and...
