Snake or Rope?π
Joshua looked around the small self-contained room with his arms on his hips and sighed. It wasn't much but it was something. He was going to have to make do with it for at least four months until he was done with IT. His eyes landed on his unpacked luggages and the idea of unpacking tomorrow morning sounded great to him. As he was about sitting on his bed, an image of his angry boss flashed in his mind. He stood up abruptly and shook his head. He would unpack now. He could not risk getting late to work tomorrow.
He walked to the wardrobe near the window and noticed it had a broken handle. He rubbed his forehead tiredly and got up to look for a rope to hold the doors together. He searched his little abode for a while and didn't see any. He decided to go outside and see if he would be lucky to stumble on one.
Outside was moderately dark, the streets were quiet and the crickets were starting to creech. He scouted around for two minutes before his eyes caught a medium length brown rope on the floor and he smirked, amazed at how soon he had found one.
He stooped and grabbed the rope. As he walked to the front of his house, he had to admit that the rope felt funny in his hand. He wanted to shrug off that thought. Rope was rope and it was what he needed badly now.
Just as his other hand touched the door knob, he felt a skin-crawling movement from the rope. He brought the rope to his face where he could see it very well.
Under the light of his front porch, he noticed that his rope had subtle red stripes and a warm body. Then the rope moved slightly again, it was almost unnoticeable. He frowned. But as the rope tried to curl itself around his wrist, realization dawned on him. He shouted and shook the snake off his wrist all the while shouting "Blood of Jesus!"
The snake did not dislodge initially and his heart jumped to his mouth. "Jesus!" He shouted again and shook his arm as if he did not need it again.
The snake dropped down with a light flop, turned over and crawled into the bushes, hissing.
Joshua's eyes were wide open and he could still hear his own heart thumping against his chest. His knees wobbled and he had to hold a pillar for support.
"Thank you, Jesus." He breathed. He couldn't believe he had mistaken a snake for a rope.
"They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Mark 16:18.π
