Yesss! Let's talk about your crush!!! That handsome young man with the dazzling smile and the cute lady with the pretty smile. It's not a new thing. As teenagers, we've all had crushes and we're going to keep having them because we're humans and we've got crazy hormones running in our blood.
It could be something as noticable at his smile and accent or something as subtle as her intelligence and peaceful countenance that attracts. Whichever way, we mostly crush on people because of certain characteristics we admire about them. Having a crush is not a sin but mismanagement and bad handling can be detrimental to both your physical and spiritual health. So how do we deal with this charming personality that makes our hearts skip a beat in our lives?
1.) Be real with yourself.
Somebody once said you can fool others but there are three people you cannot fool- God, Satan and yourself! Come to terms with the fact that you like him/her. Quit denying or running away from it. Don't beat up yourself because you keep thinking about him or can't get her out of your mind. It's a completely normal process and we've already established the fact that having a crush is not a sin. So the sooner you agree with your excited heart that you're crushing, the better for you.
2. Analyse what you like about him/ her.
Why are you crushing on him and not his brother? What attracts you to her when there are more than a million girls in the world? Is it her figure? His smile? Her cheerfulness? His fashion sense?... There are so many reasons why we can crush on someone and never mind if they sound crazy. Sitting down to think about it gives you a good grip on yourself. You're able to know the reason behind everything. It's some sort of really check and will help you understand yourself betterr.
3.) Talk to God about him/her.
No matter how little you think this topic is, it's actually very important. As teenagers who are interested in keeping the standard of God high, we've got to keep in touch with our heavenly Father. Not that he doesn't know you have a crush, but telling him brings down divine help so we don't make mistakes and fall into sin.
4.) Talk to your crush. Be friends...but leave it at that.
Don't try to be proud or snubbish when your crush is around or put on a facade of indifference. Be polite. Say hi. Converse. Be friends. But set the limits and let him/her know them. No midnight calls, sensual messages, unnecessary physical contact that can cause fireworks in any of your systems. Remember, we aren't looking for marriage partners yet. (Smiles)
5.) Do other things. Be productive.
Don't let your crush occupy your mind 24/7 so that you become useless to yourself. Read a novel, watch a movie, play a game or meet up with your friends. Anything to keep your mind busy and productive. Achievement attracts. Nobody gets attracted to a nobody. Develop yourself and learn new skills. Get off your ass and do something. Don't sit around thinking about how beautiful she is or how deep his voice is. This way your attention will move away from your crush and help you concentrate on more important things, making you a better somebody.
